This is a common problem. Check out this list of searches users search trying to solve this problem:

That's why I created this post! Let's do it!

Learn how to access links from QR codes that are already on your phone no additional scanner app needed!

The Problem: You Can't Scan What's Already on Your Screen

First: If the QR Code is on a Website or in an Email

  1. Take a screenshot of the QR code (press power + volume up on iPhone, or power + volume down on most Android phones)
  2. Open your Photos or Gallery app to find the screenshot

Second: Extract the link from the image:

For iPhone X or Newer:

  1. Open the image containing the QR code in your Photos app
  2. Press and hold on the QR code in the image
  3. A preview popup will appear showing the link destination
  4. Tap 'Open Link' to go directly to the website
  5. Alternatively, tap 'Copy' to copy the URL to your clipboard

How to Open QR Codes Saved on Android Phones

Using Google Lens:

  1. Open the image containing the QR code in your Gallery app
  2. Tap the Google Lens icon (usually appears in the bottom row of options)
  3. Google Lens will automatically detect and scan the QR code
  4. Tap the link that appears to open it

Using Bixby Vision on Samsung Devices:

  1. Open the image with the QR code in Samsung’s Gallery app
  2. Tap the Bixby Vision icon (looks like an eye) at the bottom of the screen
  3. Bixby Vision will analyze the image and detect the QR code
  4. When the link appears, tap it to open in your browser
  5. If you need to copy the URL instead, tap the three-dot menu and select Copy link

Why This Matters

Being able to open QR codes directly from your phone saves time and eliminates the need for:

  • Using a second device
  • Downloading special QR scanner apps
  • Printing QR codes just to scan them

This simple trick is especially useful for accessing digital tickets, coupons, or links shared by friends without needing to ask for the direct URL.

Try it today with any QR code image you have saved on your phone!
